What is a Heavy Gantry Crane?
A standard gantry crane is a type of overhead crane with a girder that is supported by freestanding legs at both ends. The girder can be single or a double girder configuration depending on the application or lifting requirements.
CraneTech manufactures heavy lifting gantry cranes. Our heavy (Hevi) gantry cranes can be either portable or semi-portable, depending on the needs of the client. The crane design is available in both single and double girder formats and can be used both outdoors and indoors.
The gantry crane is an excellent alternative to a standard electric overhead traveling crane when there are restrictions due to the existing building structures and where additional supporting steelwork for the crane would result in unnecessary costs and a loss of floor area.
Typical uses of the gantry cranes are in applications such as stockyards, the concrete industry, and the marine and shipbuilding industry.
CraneTech uses a specially developed helical worm drive to ensure a minimum profile of the floor carriage. The efficient and simple steel structure minimizes wheel loadings and allows for an easy erection due to the pin-jointed legs.
